I did go searching for a few Diego Rivera murals, but only ended up seeing this fresco at the San Francisco Art Institute. The great thing was the variety of student work here that could easily be placed in any public art gallery. Anyway, after seeing their work, it is going to get me working a lot harder hopefully!
Written on the wall under the fresco: This fresco painted by Diego Rivera in nineteen hundred and thirty one is the gift of William Lewis Gerstle during his term as president of the San Francisco Art Association for the years nineteen hundred & thirty and nineteen hundred and thirty one.
Two of the three galleries in the museum are closed at the moment, but there was some lovely work in the gallery that was open.
A few O'Keeffe painting from her Abiquiu home (window) and landscape.
Unfortunately the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts was closed today.
After 1930 she was inspired by the landscape of New Mexico, particularly the area of Abiquiu.
We just missed the last bus that goes into the restricted areas of Ghost Ranch, were O'Keeffe lived and painted. The area was stunning. Here are a couple of photos anyway.
Local pueblo Tao artist Rick Suazo, horsehair pottery, 2014.
Play about accidental president Lyndon Baines Johnson, played by Bryan Cranston and Martin Luther King played by Brandon J. Dirden after J.F.K was shot and their role in getting civil rights bill passed. I feel lucky to see acting this good! The attorney general of the U.S. was there watching it too.
Some work on State street, Portsmouth.
Met Don Gorvett in his studio on Market Street. He mentioned he often has interns in his studio for periods to learn the reality of being an artist, ie, just getting on with doing it. I bought a small work of his and then he told us we should see the James McNeill Whistler exhibition at The Addison Gallery of American Art, located in Andover, New Hampshire - painting and printmaking.
There were three rooms of painting, etchings, lithographs, dry point and watercolours. Then upstairs....
Photography artist I met at the ICA. Have a look at his work, quite beautiful. P.T. Sullivan.
