The class I am taking now is figure-portraiture. I am going back to painting and sticking with it until the novelty wears off. Anyway I am scrounging around in my garage for something to paint on so I don't have to spend more money and I found this charcoal drawing collage on canvas I did in 2008. I remember doing it with the aim to be less accurately representative of form and then somebody (who mind you knows not much about art) criticised it. I took the criticism to heart and buried it and have not looked at it since. It is not that bad. It is not that good, but it is interesting that I have the eye on the stand in the background and the series of symmetry through it and a lot more resilience to bounce people's comments off me now instead of absorbing it. Criticism from another artist I could take, it was criticism from people who had less understanding that I had trouble with (a little too precious probably). Well, I need to paint over something so this is a way of keeping a track of my progress or where I have come from when the picture disappears. |
